A 4 day weekend course (Thursday evening - Sunday afternoon), designed to provide an environment in which participants are stimulated to think and learn more about the challenges of living and working as a short-termer in a cross-cultural setting.
This course is facilitated by experienced mission workers drawn from a variety of organisations and situations. It is held on a regular basis in Victoria and South Australia with the possibility of other courses if required.
MIST covers topics such as:
- Culture stress / shock
- Cross-cultural communication
- Knowing and sharing your faith
- Health and Practicalities
- Spiritual Warfare
- Keeping Fresh Spiritually
- Language Learning
- Re-entry
- Good Development
- Bible Studies
- Interviews with previous MIST participants (back from the field)
- "Being" in another culture
Upon receiving your application, we will supply you with a CD containing helpful resources on some of these topics. It also includes pre-reading and preparation activities so that you can make the most of your time at MIST.

MIST is designed for those going on individual short-term placements up to 24 months, but it can accommodate teams.
We strongly encourage participants to come with the support of their sending agency and church.

Our team of experienced facilitators are made up of mission educators, mission agency personnel, and others with significant short-term experience. These include:

Costs:
Meals, accommodation, and course material are included (first day's evening meal is an extra $10 per person). Transport and personal items are not included. By sharing duties we are able to keep costs to the following:
- Non-refundable deposit: $60 per person
- Per person fee: $165 + deposit = $225
